History
The United Students Circle of Royal College was formed in 2007 to enrich the knowledge base of students academically. The club has done many events in the past few years and has helped many students to gain a vast amount of knowledge and also increase their knowledge on Information Technology together with “Virtusa”.
2007/2008
After initiating the club with immense commitments from the Co-Chairpersons for the year Sahan Kulathunga and Isuru Samarakoon, The Secretary, Umar Abdullah and under the Teacher in Charge Mrs. G.G.P.S. Perera, the club progressed efficiently and many tasks were carried out successfully.
- IELTS books and a CD player were donated to the library by the Club for the benefit of the students
- London A/L books for the students studying in the streams of Commerce, Science and Arts were also put in to the library.
- Carrier Guidance workshops were conducted to students of the College with the help of the American National College.
- “Virtusa” a leading informatics company conducted basic IT knowledge workshops for students as per request of the United Students Circle.
2008/2009
In the second year the successors were Nirmal Herath as Chairperson and Ashan Herath as Secretary who also took the club to great heights under the supervision of Mrs. G.G.P.S. Perera.
The United Students Circle won the Spaghetti Bridge Competition organized by ANC while also contributing to organize it. This was an Inter School Competition where recognition among schools was gained by the United Students Circle.
Virtusa also conducted workshops throughout the year to develop IT knowledge within the students of College.
2009/2010
In the year 2009/2010, the club was led by the Chairperson Vasika Kulathunga under Mrs. G.G.P.S. Perera. In this year however, even though the work done was comparatively less, the club remained active while accomplishing certain tasks
Educational books were donated to the library
Workshops were done together with Virtusa and ANC\
2010/2011
The successors for this year were Praveen Gopallawa as the Chairperson and Nipuna Abeygunawardena as the Secretary under the Teachers in Charge Mrs. G.G.P.S. Perera and Mrs. N. Tennakoon. With the involvement of a worldwide project called DeforesACTION and many other commitments this year the top board together with all the committee members and with undiminished support of the teachers are sure to make the United Students Circle sustainable and accomplish many goals. |
