1965 /1966 - The Beginning 
 
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Colombo, The Interact Club of Royal College was established on the 18th of November 1965. The First Interact Club in Sri Lanka was the St. John's Interact Club, Jaffna that was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Jaffna. Both the clubs are now non-existent. The Interact Club of Royal College is second Interact Club in the island and the third in Asia and now is the oldest Functioning Interact Club in Sri Lanka. The President of the Club before receiving the charter was Int. Raj Bar Kumara Kulasinghe. The Charter President of our Club is Int. Nande Palihakkara who served as president in 1965/1966 & 1966. The charter secretary is Int. P. A. De Silva. The First Staff Advisor of our club was Mr. Lenny De Silva. From the beginning on that day the Interact Club of Royal College has grown to be the most active and innovative Club in Royal College, carrying out projects in all the avenues of service, The Interact Club of Royal College has inspired many present clubs in Sri Lanka.

  • Community Service:   The Club helped maintain poor Families in Chilaw
  • Finance                :    "Beat Show" a musical show was held in the second term featuring the Savages.             The Profit from this event was use to by the school tuck shop a water boiler and a cooler.
  • International Understanding: The Club had close Links with Interact Clubs of two Canadian high Schools. They corresponded whit each other and exchanged ideas on Projects and so on

There was no e-mail or Internet at that time just the determination and enthusiasm of the Royal Interactors. 
 Int. Sepala Amarasuriya and Int. Roger Frankie who were office bearers obtained America Field Service Scholarships.

 

1968

  • Community Service:  A benefit show was organized at the Regel Cinema. The Film was “Doctor in Clover". The profit from this event was Rs. 7500/= which was used to construct houses for flood and cyclone victims in Chilaw.

School Beneficiary - The Club began a second hand bookshop to sell much-needed books for the students in school.

  • International Understanding: The Club played host to 3 members from the Interact Club of Quilon who were on a cycle tour of South India and Ceylon. The Club also hosted 30 students from India who were on a goodwill visit to Ceylon. The Interact Club of Royal College ( I.C.R.C) had close links with the Interact Clubs of Allahabad, India , the El Cajon Valley High School in America and the Ichikawa Gakuen Interact Club of Japan 
  • Finance:            “Beat Show" this year's musical featured the "Spitfires", "Flintstones" in the College hall .The Profit from this project was utilized to buy four 25 gallon Capacity water boilers for school.

  • Community Service: The Interactors organized a party for the orphans of St. Margaret's Polwatte. The bookshop was functioning well. The School beneficiary project was the contribution for the Blue and Gold Carnival that was " Living Statuary" a colourful pageant followed by a musical item . The profit from the Project, which was Rs. 1445.50, was donated to the Swimming pool fund.
  • International Understanding: The Club corresponded with many clubs abroad. They exchanged ideas on Projects.
  • Finance: The Annual event "Beat Show" under the name "Rhythm Safari" a musical show was organized featuring "Spitfires" with Dalrene.

Mr. L.De Silva retired from School. The Interactors were thankful to Mr. Lenny De Silva for his support and Cooperation, and The Interactors were left of Fond memories of their past Staff Advisor. Mr. Viji Weerasinghe took over as Staff Advisor and supported are club throughout all activities in many years to come.
 

  • Community Service: A Discotheque was organized at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery on the 13th February 1970. The profit Rs. 5000 was to build a new school cum village community service centre for veddas of Murathani, a village close to Batticalo.
  • School Beneficiary: A vocational service project was organized and was a huge success. A youth employment centre was opened in September 1970. 
  • International Understanding: The club hosted the declaration of International federation for the blind at Tea. The Club also won first place at the far-east Interact photographic competition in Hong Kong.

  • School Beneficiary: The Club helped setting up a horticulture plot in the west corner of the school. The bookshop that was run by the club was doing well.

 

  • International Understanding: The Club hosted 16 Indian Interactors from Secuderbad for a week. They took them on a tour of Colombo. They visited the Zoo, Parliament, and Planetarium and also witnessed the Swimming meet.

  • Finance: "March Mania" a discotheque was organized by the club on the second night of the Royal-Thomian at the Lionel Wendt Kala Kendraya the profit was Rs. 2500/=.
  • School Beneficiary: Helped the Agricultural Project, the club also helped the Film Society renovate the Little theatre.

  • Community Service: A sports meet for the mentally sub-normal was organized by the Club. The Club also helped victims of the cyclone. 
  • International Understanding: "Walk through the World" with fifteen diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka Participating at this exhibition. Cultural activities of practically a majority of the countries around the world were depicted, there also was a cultural pageant.

 

  • Club Service: "Interactor" the monthly bulletin was published. Won the best club award in the district 321 for the clubs in Sri Lanka and India. The President won a Rotary youth merit award at the leadership camp in Welimada. The Club hosted the First district conference for the clubs in District 321 in Sri Lanka and India, it was held on the 11th of February.

  • Community Service: An outing for the orphans of "Sarana" and "Jayanthi Home" to the Vihara Maha Devi Park was organized. 
  • School Beneficiary - A G.C.E O/L quiz was organized for the students of the Colombo District schools. The Club maintained the College Lawns. 
  • International Understanding: The Club corresponded with Interact Clubs abroad through the International Pen friend Association. 
  • Club Service: The official newsletter was published. Seminars on "Responsibilities of youth" and "Road Safety" were organized for the Rotary youth Activities week. The Club also won the awards for the best Club, the best secretary and best service project.
  • Finance: 3rd Band Competition was organized. A Violin recital was also organized by the Club for the grade 8 Royalist, Profit Rs.2900 was later donated to the association of the Mentally Handicapped.

1980 / 81

The sorrow and untimely death of the Clubs I.U. Director Int. Naresh was recorded.

  • Community Service: The Club adopted a poor girl from Weerawilla. The Members helped a Danish organization called "Danda" at a family planning survey in Wanathamulla. The Club donated medicine worth Rs.3500 to the general hospital. Flags were sold in aid of the deaf school in Ratmalana. 
  • School Beneficiary: A School Clean-up was organized. The Club also donated Medicine to the Rugby football team touring Bangkok.
  • International Understanding: "Around the World" was organized with the embassies of Pakistan, Thailand, Holland and India.

  • Community Service: The Club showed a film for the orphans of "Maithree lama Niwasa", this was done for the Rotary youth activities week. To help school, the club also cleaned the College museum.
  • International Understanding: "Serenta Internationale" an event on International culture, Fashion and Music was organized at the Galle Face hotel. Gifts of College ties were made for the Visiting Taunton College cricket team from England. 
  • Finance: 5th Annual Band Competition was organized. A raffle in aid of the college cricket team fund was organized and Rs. 9600 collected.
  • Club Service: The Club won the Quiz competition which was organized by Bishops College. The Club also hosted the 5th Annual Interact District Conference.

  • International Understanding: A pageant of National dresses of over a hundred countries was held in the Navarangahala. This project was commended and the event was a great success.

  • Community Service: A Shramadhana campaign was organized to mark the Rotary International Youth Activities month. 
  • International Understanding: The Club organized a festival on International Films.
  • Club Service: A Seminar on "Speakers, Ideas, and Themes" was organized by the club to promote the skills on the Interactors.
  • Finance: To mark the Bradby Shield, the Annual Royal - Trinity Rugby football Encounter a souvenir is published. The Club undertook and commenced publishing this souvenir for the prestigious event.

1985 / 1986

  • Community Service: The Club in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Colombo sponsored a prize giving for a needy school. A tea party was organized for the "Pubudu children's home". A project named "Total Success" was held on World Service Day. A benefit show was held for Community Service. The Club together with the Rotaract Club painted the Galle hospital.
  • International Understanding: The Club sent two members to Bangalore on an International Understanding project.
  • Finance: As a finance project the Club published the Bradby Shield Souvenir. With the Room Mother’s Association we organized a carnival to celebrate 150 years of the great institution Royal College, the profit was Rs. 100,000.

The Annual Inter-School Drama competition was organized for the first time by our Club. The main aim of this project is to promote theatre in Sri Lanka. The project which started this year, has been an Annual event of our Club.
 
Note - The Club hosted the Interact District Assembly. The Club bagged a lot of awards in the Assembly. The Royal Candidate lost the DIR election by 2 votes.
 

1986 / 1987

  • Community Service: The Club organized a prize giving for an under privileged school. Painting a hospital ward as a joint service project was carried out with the Interact Club of St Bridget's Convent. The Club also spent time in an orphanage in Borella. A Wild Life seminar was also held , the main objective of this project was to create an importance of preserving nature.
  • School beneficiary: The Club donated a Table Tennis table to the College. The Club also cleaned and rearranged the Record room. 
  • Finance: The Bradby Shield souvenir was published as a finance Project. The Inter-School Drama competition was also organized by the Club.

  • School beneficiary: The long jump pit in the college grounds were renovated by the Club.
  • Finance: The Inter-School Band Competition was organized. The Inter-School Drama Comp was organized by the Club. The club also published the Bradby Shield souvenir.

  • School beneficiary: 10,000 letterheads were printed and handed over to the principal for college use. A Cycle Shed was built for the school use.
  • International Understanding: The District Interact Swimming meet was organized at the College pool this project was done jointly with the Interact Club of Stafford International on the 18th of May 91. An ‘International Food Fiesta’ was held with the Interact Club of St. Bridget's Convent.
  • Finance: The 6th Inter-School Drama Competition was organized. The club published the Bradby Shield souvenir. The Club also had an Air gun stall at the "Royal Beam 2" fair.

  • Community Service: Printed certificates and invitation cards to a needy school prize giving. The Club also organized an awareness programme on drug abuse with SLANA.

  • Community Service: The Club organized a seminar on road safety in the month if July. It was carried out in the collaboration with the Cinnamon garden Police. The Club did not forget the Minor employees in the Christmas season, gift packs were given to all of them. We also collected 400 books to be given to the disable soldiers.
  • School beneficiary - We Printed 3000 letterheads for the college use.
  • International Understanding: The Club organized an I.U. quiz with the aim of promoting International Understanding, this project was held in the month of September.
  • Club Service: A Leadership seminar was organized to improve leadership skills among the general membership of the club. 
  • Finance: The Club undertook to print the Bradby Shield souvenir. The Bradby shield was held in July. The 9th Annual Inter-School Drama Competition was held in April. This project saw many new faces in the field of drama emerge. Together with the Interact club of Visakha Vidyalaya we organized the Talent Search ‘95 an event where competitors get a chance to display their talents in the filed of Music. Band Competition was also organized in the month of February. The Interact Club of Royal College together with the Interact Club of Bishops College organized the 5th Interact District Assembly; over a thousand Interactors took part in the project.

  • Community Service: The Club took 20 orphan children from the "Sevana Lama Nivasa" to watch a film at the Liberty cinema, this project was completed in July. The Club made a donation to the Thawalama Project. Many members took part in the “Polio” plus campaigns in the two-immunization days. Keeping with the festive spirit lunch parcels were brought by the members were distributed among the less fortunate in the city of Colombo. The Club distributed gift packs to the minor employees at college in keeping with the Sinhala -Tamil New year. The Club purchased a motorized cycle to be used by a disabled person who lives in Badulla. The members visited Badulla to make the presentation. The members also visited some Interactors form the Interact Club of Badulla Maha Vidyalaya. The Club also donated sports goods etc to an Orphanage for the physically handicapped in Thihariya.

 

  • School Beneficiary: The Club repaired the water polo goals used by the water polo team. The club also restored the photographs of the former Principals of our school that were not in good condition. 
  • International Understanding: Our Club corresponded with Interact Clubs in District 3300 and 3310 in Malaysia. A joint meeting was held in the month of May with the Interact Club of Methodist College 
  • Club Service: A skill improvement seminar was organized in the month of August, topics such as Time Management, Project planning, Leadership were discussed. This seminar was for the general membership of the Club. A farewell ceremony was organized for our Staff Advisor who retired from service. All the past presidents who were in the country participated for the event. The Club also received a Presidential Citation from Rotary International for the outstanding service during the year.
  • Finance: Talent Search was held jointly with the Interact Club of Girls High School Kandy. The 11th Annual Drama Competition was organized in February. Our Club published the souvenir for the 53rd Bradby Shield. Swimming Gala was organized with the Interact Club of Bishops College in the month of June.

  • Community Service: The Club undertook to print 24,000 prescription cards for the CMC Dispensary in Thimbirigasyaya. The Club organized " Recycle",  a walk to promote recycling in Sri Lanka. Around 300 Interactors, Rotaracors participated in the walk. The main highlight of the walk was the hand made globe which was made by the committee depicting the polluted world on one half of the globe and the other half clean, which a question mark on top posing the question what they would prefer. Together with the invited Interactors we collected about one Ton of paper from the houses. The Club gave leaflets on dengue awareness. The Club also organised a seminar on Road Safety.
  • International Understanding: The Club distributed four issues of the "Review" through e-mail. The Club hosted the 8th Interact District Conference with the Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya. The event was held at Visakha Vidyalaya on the 15th and 16th of January. The main highlight of the event was the Papare band, which the Interactors enjoyed. Int. PP Saif Ramzi was elected as the DIR for 99/2000 at this event.

 

  • Club Service: The Clubroom was renovated. A Club database was created. The Reviews was published
  • Finance: The 13th Annual Drama Competition was organised on the 2nd and 8th of March '99 at the Lionel Wendt. The Bradby Shield souvenir was published by the Club.
    • The Club won the Following Competitions:  

 

      •  Spot Light - won the drama category at this event organized by the Interact Clubs of Bishops College and St. Joseph's College.

 

      •  Inter Galactic - The Club won the quiz competition at this event which was organised by Visakha    Vidyalaya.

 

      • Interaction 98 - Won the drama category at this event.

 
1999/2000

  • Community Service: This year the Club organized a school clean up during the month of September. Signboards were made baring the slogan “This is our school, let's keep it clean", and were put up around the college premises. The club took 20 orphans from the Jayanthi Infants home to Millennium Park. The club donated an Artificial Limb to a disabled person through the AIDEX program. The Club together with St. Paul’s Milagiriya organized "Rhythms" an event for the speech impaired. 
  • International Understanding: The ICRC together with the Interactors of Asian International School organized a three day Radio Station named "Vut?” The broadcasting took place during the Royal - Thomian limited over match from Royal Park. The Club also were able to get their own show at the "FM Royal" organized by the Radio Club of Royal College.
  • Club Service: For the first time in the history of the ICRC we organized an event to celebrate our clubs Anniversary called "Birthday Bash". The Club also participated at the ‘Millennium March’ wearing ICRC T-shirts printed for the occasion. 
  • Finance: During the above year we organized the Annual Talent Search together with the Interact Club of Vishaka Vidyalaya. The Club also organized the Annual Drama Competition during the month of March. The club this year too were able to publish the 56th Bradby Shield Souvenir which was out with a difference.

  • Community Service: The club organized various community service projects which include "Meals on Wheels", "Avurudhu Fiesta for Minor Employees". The club also donated funds to the College Football team. The Club also printed Letter Heads for the College at a cost of Rs.20,000. For the first time "Abstract" a unique project together with the Interact Club of Bishops College was organized for Orphans and Disabled Children. The event which took place on the 3rd of June at BRC consisted of all kinds of Abstract Games.
  • Club Service: This year too the ICRC organized "Birthday Bash", where the club celebrated its 35th Anniversary. Many past Interactors were present at the event. To commemorate the event the Club invalid a Name Board consisting of all the Past Presidents. The Club also organized Joint Meetings with the Interact Club of Asian International. A Six a side cricket tournament was also organized for the Club Members.
  • International Understanding: VUT FM….the legacy continues. Organized together with the Interact Club of Asian International was transmitted from the JAIC Hilton towers from the 4th - 6th of April 2001. The Web Page of the ICRC was also put to make during the year.
  • Finance: Together with the Interact Club of St. Bridget's Convent we organized Talent Search 2000 under the theme "Interact Grammy's" during the month of November. The Club also organized a Car Wash which took place at the BRC. This year too we organized the Annual Drama Competition in a unique way. The 57th Bradby Shield souvenir was also published by the club and sold at the 137th Royal - Trinity Rugby Encounter.

  • Community Service: The club organized various community service projects which include "Meals on Wheels", "Avurudhu Fiesta for Minor Employees". The club also donated funds to the College football team which toured Bangkok. This year the club organized "Abstract" sports festival. A unique project together with the Interact Club of Bishops College was organized for Orphans and Disabled Children. The event which took place on the 17th of May 2002 at Havelocks SC consisted of all kinds of Abstract Games for the Orphans and Participants. The Club also took orphans from the Grace Perera Orphanage to Millennium Park and were treated with Prosoya Samaposha Lunch. The club took 20 members to the Industrial Boys Home at Pamankada in order to clean the premises for their Christmas Party.

 

  • Club Service: This year the Club organized "Birthday Bash in a different way which was a dinner at the College Quadrangle. All past and present members who were present were able to taste the ‘Koththu Feast’. The Club organized two get-togethers for the members where the members played cricket and tap. The club also put up a new notice board to replace the old one at the West Wing lobby. 

 

  • International Understanding: The Web Page of the ICRC was complete and was not been able to put up as the reason of a host not available.  
  • Finance: Together with the Interact Club of St. Bridget's Convent we organized Talent Search 2001 under the theme "Interact Grammy's" during the month of November. The Club also organized a Car Wash which took place at BRC. This year too we organized the Annual Drama Competition during the month of February. The club also published the 58th Bradby Shield.
